4 DAYS AGO - Over the summer, the Planning Applications Committee approved several items, including a temporary license for a flower stall outside Clapham Junction Station and minor alterations to the Riverside Business Centre. The committee also agreed to authorize enforcement action to return a basement flat at 310 Queenstown Road to its original use. The summer months are typically quiet in terms of planning applications. Some developers try to push through projects during this period, believing they will face less scrutiny (a trend also seen in December). 31/07/2024 - The very last ’empty shop’ in Clapham Junction following the Covid pandemic is coming back in to use. Moss Bros used to have a store next to the way in to Clapham Junction station – which was rather handily placed for them as their headquarters was in the offices above. It did a busy trade in hiring suits and formalwear, but also sold a wider mix of clothes to the crowds of people passing by every day. Th formalwear trade was hit particularly hard by the pandemic, and the store closed as part of plans to radically slim down the store estate in a Collapse

16/06/2024 - Wandsworth has a complicated relationship with cycle hire schemes! Lots of residents don’t own cars, and we’re close to the centre of London – which means it’s a Borough where a lot of people cycle. Maybe because of this, the Council is pretty supportive of cycling – and has strongly supported TfL’s Santander Cycles. They got enthusiastically involved from the start to get most of the north of the Borough included – which is why there was quite a notable stretch on the initial coverage area to include Wandsworth town centre! They’ve kept going since then: Lavender Hill itself used Collapse

27/05/2024 - Reza Tolou is a 74-year-old pensioner and flat owner in Darien House, located on Darien Road in the heart of Winstanley Estate. This four-storey walk-up block of flats, built in 1934 to designs by Battersea’s Borough Engineer, was part of a redevelopment project in the 1930s. Reza purchased the flat in the late 1990s and lived there until 2008. With two young children and needing more space, he moved out and began renting the flat. Now retired, Mr Tolou relies deeply on the rental income to supplement his pension. However, since the Council bought the flat next door two years Collapse

09/09/2024 - It’s been quite the journey for 64 Clapham Common Northside, one of the oldest houses still standing, that seems to go back to some point in the 1780s, when it was a country cottage in the fields. We first reported on it back in February, as an interesting and unusual ‘project’ house, one which had been empty for well over a decade. But it was also at the time being proposed for demolition, to make way for a modern house on the same site. The more the story gained attention, the more people investigated the history of the house – and Collapse

03/07/2024 - Planning permission to knock down a rather unique historic house on Clapham Common and redevelop with a taller ‘pastiche’ replacement has been refused by the Council. A few months ago we wrote about a rather unique house, hidden away between the big Victorian houses along the north side of Clapham Common. 64 Clapham Common Northside is much smaller and simpler building than its neighbours. It also looks very forgotten, with boarded-up windows, a neglected garden, and a hole in the roof. Early days of the building This small house was built in the 1780s, and belonged to John Cunningham (whose son, also Collapse
